Discover the wonderful Tagua Tagua Park, a privately protected area of approximately 3,000 hectares, located in the Puelo River basin, specifically on the shores of Lake Tagua Tagua.
Administratively, the park is located in the municipality of Cochamó, Llanquihue Province, Los Lagos Region, neighboring Puerto Varas via the Ensenada and Ralún route.
The park area corresponds to a concession granted by Chile’s Ministry of National Assets to Universidad Mayor, for the development of a biodiversity conservation and special-interest tourism project, where the emphasis of the experience is on knowledge and science.
Within the park, you will find ecosystems typical of southern Chile, highlighting pristine forests dominated by ancient species such as the alerce (Patagonian cypress), and other centuries-old trees like mañío and coihue.
The park is also home to crystal-clear lagoons, rivers, waterfalls, and a network of wetlands that shelter rich biodiversity of flora and fauna, including a remarkable variety of fungi.
The geographical features and natural barriers, such as Lake Tagua Tagua in the lower area and the granite peaks in the upper reaches, have protected this beautiful place from human intervention.
The forces of nature—wind, rain, rivers with their waterfalls, and the movement of glaciers that disappeared millions of years ago—have shaped Tagua Tagua Park with majestic works of natural art.
Trekking is the park’s main tourist activity.
Its trail network totals 18 kilometers and can be explored independently or with the park’s guides.
The park has two mountain lodges or shelters with wood-burning stoves and sleeping areas for guests with sleeping bags.
From Ensenada (Puerto Varas), take Route CH-225 to the Ralún junction. Continue along Route V-69 to Puelo, then take Route V-721 from the junction toward Lake Tagua Tagua.
Access to the park is by boat from the lake pier (Puerto Canelo).
